Making its mark as the U.S.'s longest and most attended film festival, the Seattle International Film Festival is a three-and-a-half week juggernaut. This year, the event opened with the "American Splendor" directing duo Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini's "The Extra Man." Set in the idyllic Scottish city, the Edinburgh International Film Festival will celebrate its 64th year in existence in 2010. "The Triplets of Belleville" director Sylvain Chomet's animated "The Illusionist" will kick off this year's fest. San Francisco's premiere LGBT film festival, Frameline34, kicks off June 17 with James Kent's BBC drama "The Secret Diary of Miss Anne Lister." "Howl," the Allen Ginsberg biopic from Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman, will close the film's run. Both films will screen in the city's huge(ly) historic Castro Theatre. The Los Angeles Film Festival, headed downtown for this year's installment, opens with Lisa Cholodenko's "The Kids Are All Right," a Sundance favorite and closes with Chris Renaud and Pierre Coffin's 3-D CGI feature "Despicable Me." The festival will also feature an invitation-only screening of the new "Twilight" film and gala screenings of the Duplass Brothers' "Cyrus" and Sundance wold narrative winner "Animal Kingdom." Silverdocs, one of the U.S.'s leading documentary film festivals, is an essential stop for the year's strongest documentaries. "Freakonomics," from some of the nation's foremost documentarians heads to the nation's capital for the fest's opening night fete.
