"JailCity" and "For the Love of God" Take Best Avignon/New York Film Festival Prizes

Daniel Eberle's "JailCity" received the '21st Century Filmmaker Award for Best U.S. Feature' at the 12th Avignon/New York Film Festival Sunday night, concluding this year's event featuring 23 features and 23 short films, panel discussions, filmmaker events, and special guests, John Turturro and Bob Rafelson. The closing night film was Turturro's latest directorial work, "Romance and Cigarettes." Zakia Tahri and Ahmed Bouchaala's "For the Love of God" (Pour L'amour de Dieu, France) won the festival's '21st Century Filmmaker Award for Best European Feature' prize, while Joshua Faudem's "Blues By The Beach" (USA/Israel) took the 'Pierre Salinger Award for Documentary Filmmaking.'In other nods, best US short went to "Hot Afternoons Have Been in Montana" by Ken Kimmelman, and Matteo Minetto's "Intimita" won best European short.
