Über-sales agent John Sloss and Sheila Nevins, president of HBO Documentary Films, will headline the Independent Filmmakers Project's Filmmaker Conference Sept. 19-23 in New York. The theme of the conference will be the "Future of Film," and will also feature Liz Rosenthal, founder of the cross-media consulting firm Power to the Pixel. IFP is the nation's oldest and largest advocacy and educational organization for independent filmmakers.

Each of the five days of the conference will kick off with a conversation with a prominent writer, director or executive in the independent film industry. Sloss, the sales agent and financier responsible for selling "The Kids Are All Right," "Precious" and "Little Miss Sunshine," will speak about the selling and distribution process, while Nevins will discuss her career in non-fiction film distribution and production. The conference will also feature daily case studies on break-out indie films from 2010, including Jay and Mark Duplass' "Cyrus," Debra Granik's "Winter's Bone," Tim Hetherington's and Sebastian Junger's "Restrepo" and Lena Dunham's "Tiny Furniture." Each day will conclude with a "Cage Match," where industry heavyweights will debate controversial issues.

As part of IFP's goal of turning the conference into a springboard for ongoing conversations about independent film, IFP also launched a new blog called "Ask the Expert," where visitors to ifp.org will be able to ask questions of professionals involved in all aspects of the film production and distribution process.

"IFP is taking the initiative to change the high-low speaker/audience dynamic of traditional conferences by providing audiences everywhere ample opportunity to add their voice to the future of film," said IFP Deputy Director Amy Dotson in a statement. "Starting today on IFP’s website, a number of new online opportunities will be available to filmmakers and film lovers all around the world to help guide the discussion and participate, including: forums with select panelists in advance of the event, live streaming of select discussions, crowd-sourced questions to panelists, and online contests offering attendees the opportunity to pitch live at the Conference to top producers, executives and financiers."

The conference is open to the public. For more on the schedule and ticketing, visit the Filmmaker Conference's website.
