First Look Pictures acquired Mike Cahill's "King of California," one day after the film's debut in the Premieres section at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival. The film, starring Michael Douglas and Evan Rachel Wood, is Cahill's first feature and it was produced by Alexander Payne, Michael London, Avi Lerner, and Randall Emmett. It is described by Sundance fest director Geoff Gilmore as the story of "a teenage girl and her mentally dysfunctional father, a man who has spent his life pursuing his passions and has just returned home after a two-year hiatus in a mental institution.
