LA Fest Expands, Sees New Role in Indie Scene

by Aaron Krach

The Los Angeles Independent Film Festival is expanding to new theaters.
Scheduled for April 16-20, LAIFF will take place at the Directors Guild of
America, Laemmle Sunset 5, The Harmony Gold Preview House and The Laugh
Factory. Festival organizers plan 75 films, 17 seminars, a music video
side-bar, a New Media Forum, audience awards and the annual Indie Music
Night.

LAIFF has become a quality venue for new filmmakers. Over 60% of the
feature films that premiered at the last three festivals have been acquired
for distribution. "The programming department has once again doubled to
prepare for the onslaught of submissions," said Thomas Ethan Harris,
Programming Director.

[Submission to the festival will be accepted through Friday, January 30,
1998. For more information, click to <www.laiff.com>.]
