Kathryn Bigelow's "The Hurt Locker" led the winners of the Golden Satellite Awards, taking honors for best picture drama, best director, best actor (Jeremy Renner), and best film editing. Rob Marshall's "Nine" had led the nominations (taking 11), and went home with two awards - best picture comedy or musical, and cinematography.
While the awards - handed out by International Press Academy - are generally disregarded as a serious Oscar precursor due to their often inexplainable decisions, this year's winners are certainly admirable in their eccentricity. Shohreh Aghdashloo - who extremely unlikely to receive an Oscar nomination - won best actress for her work in "The Stoning of Soraya M.," beating out "An Education"'s Carey Mulligan, while Michael Stuhlbarg won in the comedy acting race or "A Serious Man" over "Up In The Air"'s George Clooney.
Other major winners include supporting acting phenoms Christoph Waltz and Mo'Nique, who appear nearly invincible at this point, "Julie & Julia"'s Meryl Streep, who won in the comedy or musical actress category, and "The Maid" and "Broken Embraces," which tied in the foreign film category.
