Machete is heading to Austin. Fantastic Fest has announced "Machete Kills" will make its world premiere on September 19 at the new Alamo Drafthouse Lakeline location, kicking off the 2013 edition of the Austin-based film festival. Director and Texas native Robert Rodriguez will be in attendance along with stars Danny Trejo and Alexa Vega. More of the diverse cast -- featuring Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, Vanessa Hudgens, Sofia Vergara, Antonio Banderas, Mel Gibson, and Charlie Sheen -- may also attend, with specific celebrities to be confirmed at a later date.
"Fantastic Fest has quickly become the best place for fans to first experience the newest and coolest genre movies and blockbusters," Rodriguez said in a statement. "I am honored and extremely excited for 'Machete Kills' to have its world premiere right here in Austin and kick off Fantastic Fest."
Rodriguez and Fantastic Fest already announced another collaboration earlier this year. The director is co-producing Fantastic Market|Mercado Fanastico, a new co-production market for genre films that Fantastic Fest is hosting during this year's program. Fantastic Fest is the largest genre festival in the United States and specializes in horror, fantasy, science fiction, and action films. This year's program will run from September 19-26. "Machete Kills" is scheduled for theatrical release on October 4. Check out the trailer below for a glimpse at the sequel's grindhouse gore.
