Magnolia Pictures’ Magnet Releasing has acquired the U.S. rights to the action film “Hammer of the Gods,” directed by Farren Blackburn and written by Matthew Read. The genre distributor will release the film through Ultra VOD in 2013.
A Viking epic set in 871 AD Britain, “Hammer” depicts the grueling journey of a young warrior sent by his father the king to find his estranged brother, who was banished many years before. Charlie Bewley and James Cosmo star. Rupert Preston and Hubi Von Liel produced the Vertigo Films-Protagonist Pictures project.
“‘Hammer of the Gods’ has all the makings of a tremendously thrilling and stylish action film,” said Magnolia president Eamonn Bowles. “We are very happy to be in business again with the wonderful people at Vertigo Films.”
Magnet has recently released similar period action films such as “Centurion,” “Black Death” and “13 Assassins,” as well as the Vertigo-produced films “Monsters” and “Bronson.”
Magnet’s Dori Begley negotiated the deal for "Hammer" with Mike Goodridge of Protagonist.
Forthcoming Magnet releases include “John Dies at the End,” “The ABCs of Death” and “Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning.”
