The Wagner/Cuban Companies' Magnet Releasing s kicking off the second installment of its popular Six Shooter Film Series tomorrow. The series will begin with "Ong Bak 2: The Beginning" on demand. As with most films in the series "Ong Bak 2" will be available on demand for a month before it hits theaters.
Whereas the first Six Shooter Film Series debuted genre fare like "Let the Right One In" and "Time Crimes," the second installment is focusing on action films. All except "Bronson" will follow the same distribution model as "Ong Bak 2," with a video on demand release followed a month later with a theatrical release. The complete release schedule and more information can be found at the series' website.
Magnet/Magnolia's Senior Vice President Tom Quinn said in a prepared statement, “John Woo, Jet Li, Tony Jaa, parkour legends David Belle and Cyril Raffaelli, not to mention Nicolas Winding Refn and newcomer Tom Hardy—for an adrenaline junkie it doesn’t get much better than that.” In a conversation with indieWIRE, he touted the fact that the series will present sequels to some of the most recent popular actions titles.
After "Ong Bak 2," the series will continue with Sundance alum "Bronson" from Nicolas Winding Refn, John Woo's Toney Leung-starrer "Red Cliff," martial arts film "District 13: Ultimatum" set to debut at Fantastic Fest, and "The Warlords" starring Jet Li. Magnet Releasing will soon announce a plan to let genre fans in on the selection on the last of the six films.
"The first series came about because we had all these great genre hybrid films that deserved a special label," Quinn told indieWIRE, "This go around, we've managed to pay homage to the masters of action."
