Magnolia Home Entertainment with Phase 4 Films have picked up the rights to "Sushi Girl", a gangster film with a cast of cult faves.
"Sushi Girl" is set for theatrical and cable VOD release by Phase 4 in late 2012. Magnolia will handle the Blu-ray, DVD, and digital VOD release in early 2013. Phase 4 will also release the film theatrically and on home video in Canada.
Mark Hamill, star of the original "Star Wars" trilogy, makes a rare feature film appearence as a creepy thug named Crow. Tony Todd ("Candyman"), James Duval ("Donnie Darko") and Noah Hathaway ("The Neverending Story") round out the rest of the principle cast.
The film centers around a group of gangsters meeting for the first time after an associate's release from prison. The trailer gives us a sense of the seedy underworld inhabited by these gangsters, alternating between gritty scenes of torture/cigar chomping, and a woman preparing herself for becoming a live, though unnervingly innanimate, sushi platter.
