Magnolia Pictures Acquires Rights to Lukas Moodysson's Swedish Punk Film 'We Are the Best!'

After world premiering at the Venice International Film Festival and showing at Toronto shortly after, "We Are The Best!" has landed U.S. distribution thanks to Magnolia Pictures. The deal was negotiated between Susan Wendt, Head of Sales at TrustNordisk and Peter Van Steemburg, Director of Acquisitions at Magnolia Pictures. Directed by Swedish director Lukas Moodysson, the film follows three young outcasts growing up in 1980's Stockholm who, despite their differences and not having any instruments, come together to form a punk band.

“'We Are the Best!' left all of us grinning from ear to ear,” said Magnolia President Eamonn Bowles. “It's sweet, charming and funny, with a punk rock spirit that's more authentic than all the modern day bands claiming the title. It’s easily one of the exceptionally talented Lukas Moodysson’s best films.”

Magnolia are prepping a 2014 release for the film, following its opening in Sweden on October 11.
