Magnolia Goes After "Headhunters"

Magnolia Pictures is making their mark at this year’s Berlinale. The company announced today that they have pre-bought North American rights to Morten Tyldum’s “Headhunters.” The Norwegian thriller based on Jo Nesbø’s popular novel is set to premiere theatrically in its home country this summer.

Magnolia Senior Vice President Tom Quinn and Vice President of Acquistions Dori Begley negotiated the deal with Susan Wendt from Trust Nordisk.

“Headhunters” tells the story of Roger (Ksel Hennie), Norway’s most accomplished headhunter. Living beyond his means, Roger supplements his income by stealing art. Things take a turn when his wife introduces him to a former mercenary in possession of a valuable painting, launching Roger into a dangerous discovery as he goes after the prized artwork.

“Morten Tyldum’s ‘Headhunters’ promises to be a nail-biting thriller that resonates with US audiences much like ‘Tell No One’ and ‘The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo’ have,” stated Quinn. “We are so excited to be in business with the wonderful TrustNordisk on this film.”

TrustNordisk CEO Rikke Ennis shared in the praise for the project, “Jo Nesbø's ‘Headhunters’ is one of the most powerful titles from the Nordic countries and it has a huge potential to travel abroad. It is a sexy, nervewracking and great film and signing a deal now with a great partner like Magnolia only underlines its potential. We are very proud and can't wait to see the reactions from the American audience."
