With four additional profiles from the upcoming 2011 Sundance Film Festival's filmmakers for today, indieWIRE has now published interviews with 28 directors screening in the event's U.S. narrative and doc competitions as well as the World narrative and documentary competitions and the fest's NEXT section. Over 20 more will continue to publish on iW through next week leading up to the festival's start on January 20th.

Tuesday's group features three screening in the U.S. Dramatic Competition including Gavin Weisen's "Homework," Mike Cahill's "Another Earth," Elgin James' "Little Birds" as well Brendan Fletcher's World Dramatic Competition film, "Mad Bastards.

Soon after the Sundance Film Festival unveiled its 2011 lineup, indieWIRE invited directors with films in the Sundance U.S. Dramatic & Documentary Competitions, as well as the World Dramatic & Documentary Competitions and NEXT section, to submit responses in their own words about their films. indieWIRE has been the place to get to know the Sundance filmmakers ahead of the festival for more than a half-dozen years.

Over 50 in the four sections provided their responses and iW will roll them out daily through the start of the festival later this month.

A snapshot of Tuesday's new featured interviews:

In "Mad Bastards," TJ is in search of his son whom he has never known. While on his journey he questions his life of violence, and along the way he meets a host of amazing characters who open up a way of life infused with music and hunting and community. "This film takes you on a journey deep into another world and the actors/characters are so raw and so real that they bring that world to life," noted Fletcher.

"Studios were originally interested in making a film based on my life story," said director Elgin James about his film, "Little Birds. "But it became clear their version of my story was developing into something that would romanticize the violence I had fought so hard to leave behind. The last thing I wanted was to glamorize it and lure people into that lifestyle." The film is a drama revolving around two girls who run away to Los Angeles.

Mike Cahill's "Another Earth" centers on an ambitious young student who is involved in a tragic accident with a composer as she leans out of her car to look at a newly discovered planet. "The film sprung from a basic idea: What would it be like to meet oneself?" Cahill told iW.

"Movies were a true first love, and a bit of a dysfunction - from my earliest childhood, they were an obsession and an escape,"offered "Homework" director Gavin Wiesen. In his film, George, a lonely and fatalistic teen who's made it all the way to his senior year without ever having done a real day of work, is befriended by Sally, a popular but complicated girl who recognizes in him a kindred spirit.
