Lars von Trier's "Melancholia" led the winners of the 2011 European Film Awards, which took place tonight in Berlin, Germany.

The film took honors for best film, best cinematography and best production design. Von Trier himself, however, lost the best director trophy to his fellow Dane Susanne Bier (who he infamously dissed at Cannes earlier this year).

Other major winners include Tilda Swinton and Colin Firth, who won best actress and actor for "We Need To Talk About Kevin" and "The King's Speech," respectively. "Speech" also took prizes for editing and the people's choice award.

Despite being a frontrunner at the Oscars, "The Artist" only went home with a trophy for best score.
