“Melancholia” Leads European Film Award Nominations

“Melancholia” Leads European Film Award Nominations

Lars von Trier’s “Melancholia” led the 24th European Film Award nominations, which were announced this morning. The film took 8 nominations including best film, director, screenplay and a double nominations for best actress with Kirsten Dunst and Charlotte Gainsbourg.

In the top category the film is joined by Tom Hooper’s “The King’s Speech,” Jean-Pierre & Luc Dardenne’s “The Kid With The Bike,” Michel Hazanavicius’s “The Artist,” Aki Kaurismaeki’s “Le Havre,” and von Trier’s fellow Dane Susanne Bier’s “In a Better World.”

Hooper and Hazanavicius were snubbed in the best director category in favor of Bela Tarr for “The Turin Horse.”

Full list of nominations is below.  The more than 2,500 EFA Members will now vote for the winners which will be presented during the awards ceremony on December 3rd in Berlin.
