American filmmaker Michael Mann ("Public Enemies," "Heat") will chair the International Jury for the competition at the upcoming 69th Venice International Film Festival (August 29 - September 8).

Mann and his jury will be responsible for awarding the Golden Lion and other official prizes.

The decision to appoint Mann was made by the Board of Directors of the Venice Biennale, chaired by Paolo Baratta, upon the reccomendation of the festival's director Alberto Barbera.

This marks the first time the writer/director/producer will be jury chief at an international film festival.
