Having spent much time in the Aurora/Denver/Littleton area over the years, I am too sad about this most recent tragedy to comment at the moment, other than to say this:
I fear anthropologists and historians will look back on us and simply say we were a violent nation, at home and abroad, but in due time human decency won out and the violence ceased, but not before many, many more died and the world had had its fill of us.
Thoughts, prayers, and whatever comfort can be found for the victims and their families...
Moore's "Bowling for Columbine," of course, chronicles the recent American obsession with gun culture and resulting spikes of terrible violence. The film's title refers to the 1999 Columbine High School shootings which occured in the town of Littleton, Colorado, just over a dozen miles away from Aurora.
Editor's note: An earlier version of this article said the Columbine shootings occurred in 1997; the date has been corrected to 1999.

Yes, it was a tragedy, but Michael Moore is a fucking moron. All nations in the world have their share of violence. It's a fact of life. Moore, as usual, is using this to exploit his personal socialist agenda. Why anyone still pays attention to this idiot is beyond any sane person's comprehension. Let's go and put the band-aid of gun control over the whole thing again, just like we do every time something like this happens. Meanwhile, there are millions of responsible gun owners who have to suffer the whinings of gun control every time some crazy moron pops up. How about we stop blaming guns and blame those who decide to go balistic just because they want some kind of attention? And sweep Michael Moore and his ilk to the dustbin of history where he belongs.

This is a terrible act and my heart goes out to the families of the victims. May they find comfort in this very difficult time. Someone created a memorial page for these victims on Evertalk within Facebook. There is a memorial fund on this page and people can donate to help the families of the victims of this terrible tragedy. Here's the page.
