"Fahrenheit 9/11" director Michael Moore will receive this year's Filmmaker Award Wednesday night during the 14th annual Gothams, IFP/New York announced Monday. Nine honors will be presented during the event, which will air live on IFC for the first time, with the broadcast set for 9 p.m. ET.

Four competitive awards including best feature, best documentary, breakthrough actor, and breakthrough director will be handed out during the ceremony, taking place at Manhattan's Pier 61. Also slated are four tributes including a filmmaker award for Lifetime Achievement to Mike Leigh, Gotham Actor Award to Don Cheadle and Industry Lifetime Achievement Award to Dan Talbot and the 'Celebrate New York salute to "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," (Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet expected) as well as the Filmmaker Tribute to Moore, who will give an acceptance speech via satellite. "Fahrenheit 9/11" is also nominated in the Best Documentary category.

"We always wanted to pay tribute to Michael's work as part of the 14th annual Gothams," said Michelle Byrd, executive director, IFP/New York in a statement. "Dating back to 1989 with 'Roger & Me,' his career has been a series of seminal moments and his influence and passion have had a worldwide impact. In a year that saw the most hotly contested presidential election, 'Fahrenheit 9/11' moved a nation from inaction into action and in so doing, set the gold standard for underscoring the importance of the artist in the cultural and political life of its citizens."

As previously announced, Bob Balaban will host while John Cameron Mitchell will be on the red carpet, and DJ Grandmaster Flash will provide the music selections for the evening.
