One of indieWIRE's top picks out of the Cannes Film Festival was "Miss Bala," a Mexican thriller that features a breakout performance from newcomer Stephanie Sigman. Get a taste for what all the fuss is about by checking out the new trailer for the film, courtesy of 20th Century Fox who release the film on October 14 in New York.

The clip lays out the bare bones of the plot: Sigman stars as an aspiring beauty queen who unwittingly gets tangled into a vicious gangster syndicate.

The plot and the plight of the protagonist brings the acclaimed Columbian-American thriller "Maria Full of Grace." That film went on to make a star out of Catalina Sandino Moreno who was nominated for an Academy Award for her stirring performance. Judging by the hype surrounding "Miss Bala," Sigman may soon be following in her steps.
