monterey media has acquired U.S. rights to Ed Gass-Donnelly's "Small Town Murder Songs," which had its world premiere at last year's Toronto International Film Festival.
Shot in Listowel, Ontario and featuring music by Canadian indie-rock band Bruce Peninsula, "Small Town Murder Songs" follows an aging small town police officer on the hunt for the first murderer to hit his town in decades.

March 28, 2011 Los Angeles, CA- monterey media is pleased to announce the acquisition of all rights all media in the U.S. to director Ed Gass-Donnelly’s modern, gothic tale of crime and redemption, SMALL TOWN MURDER SONGS.
Following the film’s World Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, SMALL TOWN MURDER SONGS was exalted by Variety as “A rare film. Cosmologically profound” and also named Ed Gass-Donnelly as one of their 10 Directors to Watch.
Written by Ed Gass-Donnelly, produced by Lee Kim and Gass-Donnelly and starring Peter Stormare (Fargo, The Big Lebowski, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters), Martha Plimpton (“Raising Hope”), Jill Hennessy (“Crossing Jordan”, Wild Hogs) and Aaron Poole (This Beautiful City), SMALL TOWN MURDER SONGS was shot in Listowel, Ontario. One of the film’s most vital elements and featured throughout the soundtrack is music by Canadian indie-rock band Bruce Peninsula, whose style has been described as "a near indescribable and rousing potpourri of prog, gospel, folk, rock, pop and country."

Acquired from Paradigm Entertainment, SMALL TOWN MURDER SONGS intrigued both audiences and critics as an official selection at the Toronto International Film Festival, Santa Barbara Film Festival and International Film Festival Rotterdam, in addition to Seattle, Miami, Cleveland and Hamptons International Film Festivals and Whistler Film Festival where Martha Plimpton received the Best Actress Award for her role as Sam.
