The Screen Actors Guild awards were presented Sunday, and as
expected, the statuettes, called "Actors," were spread between Academy
Award nominees. TriStar's "As Good As It Gets" took the two lead actor
roles, with Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt taking home Actor statuettes.
In the supporting categories, Robin Williams picked up a win for his
work in Gus Van Sant's "Good Will Hunting" and the race for best
supporting actress ended in a tie, with Kim Basinger ("L.A.
Confidential") splitting the award with Gloria Stuart ("Titanic"). The
surprise best picture Oscar nominee, Fox Searchlight's "The Full Monty"
took home another award, as well, winning for "outstanding performance
by a cast in a theatrical motion picture" (Mark Addy, Paul Barber,
Robert Carlyle, Deirdre Costello, Steve Huison, Bruce Jones, Lesley
Sharp, William Snape, Hugo Speer, Tom Wilkinson, Emily Woof). Elizabeth
Taylor was given the Life Achiment Award.
