With Hollywood offering a particularly weak duo - Tony Scott’s mildly received remake of “The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3” and the new addition to Eddie Murphy’s “what if?” family comedy resume - this weekend is the perfect time to find to some alternatives.

The highest profile option comes care of legendary director Francis Ford Coppola’s second recent attempt at a return to form, “Tetro.” Based around the troubles of an Italian-American family living in Argentina, indieWIRE‘s Eric Kohn warns the film is only a “mildly interesting entry in Coppola’s thirty-plus years of work.” Though relative to “Imagine That,” it’s likely to feel like a masterpiece.

Much warmer indieWIRE notices fell upon a trio of other indie releases: Duncan Jones’ sci-fi effort “Moon,” which Kohn says “nails the genre’s original appeal”; Daryl Wein’s doc on groundbreaking writer and safe-sex spokesman Richard Berkowitz, “Sex Positive,” noted by Michael Koresky as “intelligent and engaging”; and Robert Kenner’s food industry expose, “Food, Inc,” which Michael Rowin called an “enlightening if not groundbreaking documentary.”

Two other films - though not reviewed by indieWIRE - Paul Devlin’s “BLAST!” and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi’s “Youssou Ndour: I Bring What I Love” - are previewed in our calendar, as are the aforementioned.  Each film has its own page, complete with a round up of reviews, links to the extensive coverage we’ve done on the films here, as well as general information on the films, trailers, and - please note - the opportunity for you the reader to rate and comment on each film. Check them out, and choose your Eddie Murphy alternative:
