Chris Kelly's debut feature, starring Jesse Plemons and Molly Shannon, is already set for a fall theatrical run via Vertical Entertainment. The film follows a young man who returns to his Northern California hometown to be with his ailing mother. Written by Kelly, the film's cast also features Bradley Whitford, JJ Totah, Maude Apatow and Madisen Beaty (all pictured in the photo above from our Sundance portrait studio).
This news follows a half-dozen other deals that Netflix made at the festival, including buys for "The Fundamentals of Caring," "Tallulah," "Audrie & Daisy" and Indiewire favorite "Under the Shadow." Compared to the other pickups, this is the first with some potential awards heft. Shannon's performance was highly regarded at the film's first few screenings and would be a likely centerpiece of any potential "Other People" campaign.
