New Films From Julie Delpy, O'Hara & Macaulay And The Howard Bros.

Compiled by Kevin Dreyfuss

>> Delpy Directs

Variety is reporting that our favorite French actress Julie Delpy ("Before
Sunrise," writer-director of the Sundance short "Blah Blah Blah") has put
together financing for her feature writing-directing debut, "Tell Me,"
currently in pre-production. Co-written with Kelly
Souders and produced by Andrea Sperling ("Doom Generation") and French
financier Why Not Productions ("In the Soup"), the film is a dark comedy about
a neurotic housewife taken hostage who turns that tables on her tormenter.
Delpy will play a minor role and is in the midst of casting for the rest of
the film.

>> Leguizamo Is King

The producing team of Robin O'Hara & FILMMAKER Magazine Editor
Scott Macaulay ("Gummo," "First Love Last Rites") has joined forces with John
Leguizamo ("Freak") to produce their next indie effort, "King of the Jungle,"
currently in production in New York. The film is written and directed by Seth
Zvi Rosenfeld ("A Brother's Kiss"), and stars Leguizamo as a "mentally
challenged" man who witnesses a murder and is forced to lose himself
in New York. Other cast members include Rosie Perez ("A Brother's Kiss"),
Michael Rappaport ("Copland"), Annabella Sciorra
("What Dreams May Come"), Marisa Tomei ("Slums of Beverly Hills"), Justin
Pierce ("First Time Felon"), Julie Carmen ("In the Mouth of Madness") and
Cliff Gorman ("Hoffa"). Producers Macaulay and O'Hara were winners of the
Ralph Lauren Producing Award at the 1998 Independent
Spirit Awards back in March.

>> Diy In Seattle

Brothers Jesse and Todd Howard just wrapped their ultra-low budget do-it-
yourself indie film "THE LAST the end" in Seattle last week. The film is a
dreamlike, magical realist allegory about the nature of conflict and gender
rivalries as told through the eyes of children on the playground, and it stars
an eclectic collection of professional and nonprofessional child actors who
writer-director Jesse discovered through his work running a film program for
kids at the Seattle County Day School. Older brother Todd is making this film
his producing debut, and is currently searching for completion funds. Interested
parties can check out their Web site at www.thelasttheend.com, which comes
complete with downloadable film clips available for viewing.
