New Finishing Fund Company Launches

by Mark Rabinowitz

Final Cut Features, a joint venture between Thomas Mangan's Post
Productions Inc.
and filmmakers Gavin and Gregory O'Connor, is poised to
offer finishing funds and post-production guidance to independent
filmmakers in need of money to complete their films. The money will be
available for four to eight films per year that are budgeted at one million
or less. In return for the funds, Final Cut will receive a percentage
ownership in the film. While the company has yet to select their first
project, their Director of Operations Joshua Fagin told indieWIRE that
about a month into their efforts, they have viewed "about 40 films,"
adding that they have "a bunch under consideration."

Fagin said that "the money is coming from private investors," adding
that "We have money to proceed with what we're doing, but we're looking
for investors as we proceed." While Final Cut will be providing the finishing
funds, they will not be limiting themselves to the financial part of the
productions. "What we hope to do, ultimately, is pretty much supervise
post," he said, adding, "We do want to distinguish ourselves from just
being sort of a financing company." He also said that the company would,
if need be, act as sales reps for the completed films.

Mangan's Post Productions Inc. is a New York City-based post-production
supervision and accounting service, counting "Casino," "Tree's Lounge,"
"Big Night" and "Flirting With Disaster" among its credits. Mangan is
also president of River One Films, which has produced "Watch It" and
"Colin Fitz." Gavin and Greg O'Connor are currently in pre-production on
"Tumbleweeds" at Ted Demme's Spanky Pictures. 1997 Tony Award winner
Janet McTeer ("A Doll's House") is set to star. Their previous feature,
Comfortably Numb," won the Best New Feature Award at the 1996 Long
Island Film Festival.
