The new trailer for Sony Pictures Classics' "The Guard" is unabashed in presenting the film's comedic portrait of casual Irish racism as "a perfect summer movie," per one review's pull quote that's featured in the montage.

Or, as Brendan Gleeson, who portrays the western Ireland police seargant who's paired with FBI agent Don Cheadle, says: "I'm Irish. Racism is part of me contract."

SPC's positioning this as a fish-out-of-water comedy and the trailer's clearly edited to put the joke squarely on those making the racist slurs. Still, if we're supposed to laugh at the people who are degrading others, that could be a tough sell.

Here's the trailer. What do you think? Tell us in the comments. The film's set for release July 29.
