'No Distrib' WorldFest-Charleston Announces Awards
Will Geiger's "Ocean Tribe" won the feature film Grand Prize at the
WorldFest-Charleston International Film Festival, which had its final night
Sunday, November 9th. Fest Director Hunter Todd told indieWIRE he was
proud that this festival was a "no distributor" event -- no film screened
at the ten day event was represented by a distributor. "Distributors like
Miramax have co-opted every film festival...All the films here were
regional premieres," said Todd.
Other winners include Greg Seton's "Nonfat" for Best Short Subject and Jason
Constantine's "Ashes" for Best Student Film. Gold Medals went to: "Paradise Falls" by Nick Searcy for Feature Film Production; Daniel D'or's "The Cusp"
for First Feature; James Quattrochi's "True Friends" for Independent Film;
Rod McCall's "Lewis And Clark And George" for Low Budget (under $1 million)
film; John Jacobs' "The First To Go" for Comedy; Joella Bentolila's "The Maze"
for Suspense/Thriller; and Len Richmond's "The Merchants Of Venice" for the
Adult Themed film category.
