Stretching nearly six months, awards season begins slowly, speeds up and then ends swiftly. A crush of media attention is paid to the Academy Award nominees in the week leading up to Oscar night and days after, attention wanes by the hour.

As we wrap up our coverage of awards weekend in Los Angeles, a look at the Academy Awards annual Governor's Ball, with photos from AMPAS photographers. We're testing a new page format here, so feel free to click through and check out the larger versions of the pix. For good measure, we decided to change them to black and white, just to attempt an even more distinctive look.
