New York, NY (September 14, 2011)—Oscilloscope Laboratories announced today that it has acquired North American distribution rights to Andrea Arnold’s (Red Road and Fish Tank) Wuthering Heights. The film, which premiered in Venice and then screened in Toronto to great critical acclaim, is an updated version of Emily Bronte’s classic novel, and approaches the story in an excitingly fresh and distinctive way. Arnold’s stripped back style and beautiful, evocative visuals (the film won the Best Cinematography award at Venice) brings out the powerful emotions at the heart of the story, and results in one of the most viscerally affecting love stories ever seen on screen. Oscilloscope plans to release the film theatrically in 2012, followed by releases on DVD and in multiple digital platforms.
Wuthering Heights is an Ecosse Films Production and was co-developed and co-financed by Film4, the UK Film Council, Screen Yorkshire and Goldcrest Films. Producers are Ecosse’s Robert Bernstein and Douglas Rae, along with Kevin Loader. HanWay Films is handling international sales.
The deal was negotiated by David Fenkel of Oscilloscope and Thorsten Schumacher and Claire Taylor of HanWay.
