From a documentary about outing closeted gay politicians, to a film with gay love scenes featuring Robert Pattinson, to films starring gay icons and/or gay lust-objects Tilda Swinton, Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna, Indiewood sure is queerly directing its "Star Trek" counterprogramming (and are perhaps underestimating how many gay geeks and/or those pining for Chris Pine, will be lining up for "Trek"). I mean, even one other major option, "Adoration," is directed by one of Canada's most regarded filmmakers. Isn't that kinda gay in itself?
Though obviously none of these films are solely meant for gay audiences (except maybe "Little Ashes"). "Rudo y Cursi," after all, is essentially a buddy-dramedy about footballers in Mexico. So for those of you not interested in getting beamed up this weekend, indieWIRE directs you once again to our newly realized Calendar. Each film, uh, coming out this weekend has its own page, complete with links to the extensive coverage we've done on the films here at indieWIRE (from a provocative interview with "Outrage" director Kirby Dick to a fact sheet on "Julia"'s Tilda Swinton), as well as general information on the films, trailers, roundups of critical opinion, and - please note - the opportunity for you the reader to rate and comment on each film.
Here's links to this weekend's non-"Trek" options, "Next Day Air" aside:
