Outsider Pictures today announced the acquisition of Pablo Giorgelli’s Las Acacias from French-based international film sales and distribution company Urban Distribution International, for US theatrical distribution in the United States.

The deal was announced via the Industry Office of the 29th annual Miami International Film Festival (MIFF), produced and presented by Miami Dade College (MDC).   Las Acacias was screened as part of MIFF’s new category, the Lexus Ibero-American Opera-Prima Competition.

“We’re excited to add this award winning story from this promising director to our catalogue of films,”said Paul Hudson, co-founder of Outsider Pictures. “This beautiful cinematic cross-country tour of Argentina is touching and we are sure it will resonate with audiences.”

“Outsider Pictures has superb instincts in acquiring intriguing, high-quality Latin American films for the U.S. market ,”said MIFF executive director Jaie Laplante.  “I am certain that  Pablo Giorgelli's beautifully realized labor of love will be a success for Outsider. ”

Already a winner of major prizes at last year’s Cannes Film Festival (Camera d’Or for Best First Film) and the Latin Horizons prize at the San Sebastian Film Festival, Giorgelli’s film unfolds along the highway linking Asunción to Buenos Aires, which trucker Rubén is accustomed to traveling solo. This time, however, he’s got a passenger, Jacinta, and a road full of revelations on the horizon. Giorgelli’s film was co-produced by Buenos Aires-based companies AIRECINE and Utópica Cine, along with Armonika Entertainment from Spain.

The deal was negotiated by Hudson and Urban Distribution's Eric Schnedecker.

Las Acacias is the second film acquired by Outsider Pictures in the MIFF line-up.  As previously announced, Outsider picked up MIFF's Lexus Audience Award winner Juan of The Dead, just prior to the Festival.
