"Winter's Bone" star Jennifer Lawrence will be presented with the Rising Star Award at the upcoming 22nd annual Palm Springs International Film Festival, which runs January 6-17, 2011. Lawrence will collect her award at the festival Awards Gala on January 8 at the Palm Springs Convention Center, to be hosted by "Entertainment Tonight"'s Mary Hart.
"Call it a gift for us all when a young performer comes along, demonstrating such natural theatrical instinct," said Film Festival chairman Harold Matzner in a statement. "Jennifer Lawrence has delivered an Oscar quality performance in her latest role, in the jarring, critically-acclaimed "Winter’s Bone." It is a great honor for the Palm Springs International Film Festival to present Jennifer Lawrence with the 2010 Rising Star Award."
Past recipients of the award include Jessica Biel, Dakota Fanning, Emile Hirsch, Bryce Dallas Howard, Terrence Howard, Anna Kendrick and Scarlett Johansson. Lawrence herself has already gone on win win awards at the Venice Film Festival and the Los Angeles Film Festival. She will next be seen in Jodie Foster's "The Beaver," and Matthew Vaughn's "X-Men: First Class," in which she will portray Mystique.
