Participant Pictures has acquired all US rights to Juliano Mer Khamis and Danniel Danniel's "Arna's Children" and will release the film theatrically with THINKFilm. The movie, set to open in New York City this weekend, shared the doc prize at the 2004 Tribeca Film Festival.
"Arna's Children" is the story a theater group for Palestinian children founded by film co-director Juliano Mer Khamis' mother, activist Arna Mer Khamis. When she died of cancer in 1995, the theater group faltered and later failed.
"We are proud to be involved with 'Arna's Children,' a poignant film which promotes social tolerance and critical inter-cultural discussion," said Participant's Chief Vision Officer and SVP, Chris Adams. "THINKFilm's track record in the doc arena and marketing prowess make them the ideal partner for 'Arna's.'"
Among THINKFilm's recent doc releases are George Butler's "Going Upriver: The Long War of John Kerry" and Bob Smeaton's "Festival Express." The company recently acquired a look at a trinogomous relationship, Susan Kaplan's "Three of Hearts," and "Tell Them Who You Are," a doc about acclaimed cinematographer Haskell Wexler, by his son Mark Wexler.
