Paul Schrader Reminds Facebook He Is Still Disappointed in Lindsay Lohan

"The Canyons," the film directed by famed screenwriter Paul Schrader ("Taxi Driver," "Raging Bull") from a script from Bret Easton Ellis, starring an out-of-rehab Lindsay Lohan alongside porn star James Deen, continues to deliver behind-the-scenes drama.  It was widely reported that Schrader was surprised/upset/relieved by Lohan's no-show at the film's European premiere, but now Schrader has taken to Facebook to express his disappointment in the troubled actress.

In a post yesterday on "The Canyons" Facebook page, Schrader writes (reprinted with typos intact):

I am mystified and disappointed by LL's refusal to support The Canyons. She is a producer of the film, a 25% owner. She has received wonderful reviews (among the negative) for her performance. I hired her when no one else would. She fought to keep the role when I wanted to fire her for unreliability. She has no other films in the can. She has received her $250G deferment The Venice red carpet is one of the extraordinary plums of the festival circuit. She repeatedly said she would come to Venice but never did. She said you would suppport the film but never did. She never showed for the photo sessions, including the session for the ad campaign art. Richard Brody of the New Yorker wanted too do a appreciative profile but somehow she didn't have time to meet him. Film Comment gave her the cover but she would not give them an interview (I had to write a profile piece to save the cover), I shifted the film's European premiere from Locarno to Venice so she could make her promised post-rehab appearance. But she did not show. I can only surmise that Lindz had decided that Canyons is part of a reprobate past she must put behind her in order to move forward. She was never comfortable working with James Deen and perhaps this still sticks in her craw. I assume those closet to her, her family and reps, had advised her to treat Canyons as an indiscretion. But, for me, the reality is the opposite. In Canyons Lindsay has given a bold, raw, naked original performance which vaults her from the s category of ingenue to leading lady. Don't get me wrong. I want LL to move forward, have a healthy life and, if possible, a career, but I disagree with her decision to (passively not aggressively) turn her back on Canyons. It's an extraordinary piece of work and serves her well. Lindsay, your work is excellent. Own it! Paul Schrader

There's a lot at play here, and whatever Lohan may be thinking, I think we can all agree it's time to let this one go and move on.  Her involvement helped this become a film that people were actually talking about.  This was a film, after all, that in part became something to talk about because festival programmers and distributors didn't like it. We shall see...

Paul your statements are not the truth. Lindsay did SNL, BravoTV, and Liz and Dick before The Canyons. She also has promoted DrinkMrPink, JustSingIt, and John John jeans. She has filmed SM5, Anger Management, Eastbound and Down, short film for Guggione, Chelsea Lately, David Lettermen, Oprah, and Jimmy Fallon (three times). She is currently making an 8 part docuseries for Oprah. She also has spottedfriend. So she is working and busy. You are not the only person to hire her. As for promoting the movie. She has done that quite well. She has the movie trailer on her awesome website (LindsayLohan.com). She promoted it on twitter (7.1 million followers), on her facebook page, on her instagram. She successfully hosted Chelsea Lately and talked about the movie and showed a clip. She was on Oprah and they talked of the movie and she showed a clip. Depite all the negative ranting put out there by Paul et al, Lindsay has been professional and only publically stated she was grateful to work with Paul and Bret. Lindsay promotion of this microbudget movie far exceeds what should have been expected.

Well, Paul, what did you expect from a drug-snorting, spoiled brat con artist??? Maybe you should make a movie with someone who wants to actually try instead of some basket case who just wants people to live near her backside.
