The Producers Guild of America (PGA) announced today the ten nominations for the Darryl F. Zanuck Producer of the Year Award in Theatrical Motion Pictures category that will advance in the voting process for the 21st Annual PGA Awards, which will take place on Sunday, January 24th at the Hollywood Palladium.
While expected nominees like "Avatar," "Up in the Air" and "The Hurt Locker" all made the cut, Joel & Ethan Coen's "A Serious Man," Rob Marshall's "Nine," and Oren Moverman's "The Messenger" were all snubbed. In their place were summer box office hits "Star Trek" and "District 9."
The PGA has correctly chosen Oscar's best picture 13 of the past 20 years, and last year they lined up with "Slumdog Millionaire." Last year, they got 4 out of 5 nominations correction, giving "The Dark Knight" a nomination that the Academy gave to "The Reader." This year, like the Academy, the PGA expanded their top award to ten nominations.
The PGA also announced nominees in other categories including: the PGA Producer of the Year Award in Animated Theatrical Motion Pictures, the PGA Producer of the Year Award in Documentary Theatrical Motion Pictures; and the David L. Wolper Producer of the Year Award in Long-Form Television. Pixar's "Up" was the only film to manage nominations in more than one category, taking both a nomination for overall Producer of the Year and in the specified animation category.
The nominated films and programs are listed below in alphabetical order by category, along with producers. The producers' names listed for each nominated production are listed in alphabetical order and are not necessarily the proper order of credits.
