Strand Releasing has acquired all US rights to "Picture Me," a documentary by Ole Schell and Sara Ziff which foes behind the scenes to chronicle the glitzy world of high fashion modeling, from photo shoots with celebrated photographers to runway shows in New York, Milan, and Paris.
"We are thrilled to be working with Strand to release 'Picture Me,'" Schell and Ziff said in a statement. "It's a unique film that we hope can shed light on the hidden sides of the fashion industry, finally giving a voice to its young women who are often seen, but rarely heard."
In a statement, Schell described the film: "'Picture Me' began with us shooting several years of home video footage of my girlfriend, Sara Ziff, who was beginning a successful career as model. We were initially shooting for fun but after several people responded well to the footage, we decided to frame the personal home footage with interviews of other fashion industry insiders and models and cut a film out of it. We traveled to the major fashion cities- Milan, London and Paris- and went to scores of shows and shoots and even had Sara interviewed by a prominent female sociologist, Arlie Hochschild, who specializes in modern day feminism."
The deal was negotiated between Strand Releasing Co-President Jon Gerrans and Visit Films' Ryan Kampe. This marks the second deal between the two companies.
"This is an incredibly important film that confronts many issues surrounding the fashion industry," Visit Films partners Kampe and Sylvain Tron stated. "We are happy to be working with a company that has the capacity to market this to the right audience in an appropriate manner."
Strand has set the film for a summer 2010 release.

smart people those Strand folks! When we hosted the world premiere of the film at the Gen Art Film Festival last year we knew it would appeal strongly to our audience but were pleasantly surprised how much the film affected them and sparked dialogue. "Picture Me" has the potential to make some real waves . . . kudos to Sara and Ole for sticking out the difficult and personal journey to get the film made/finished and seen!
