After their successful collaboration on Sam Jones' Wilco
documentary "I Am
Trying to Break Your Heart"
earlier this year, Plexifilm and
Cowboy Pictures
are once again working together for the release of AJ Schnack's
"Gigantic (A
Tale of Two Johns)."
Produced by Bonfire Films of America, the
film explores
the quirky world of cult rock duo They Might Be Giants. Cowboy will
release
it theatrically in May 2003, followed by a Plexifilm DVD release in fall
2003. Plexifilm CEO Gary Hustwit and producers' rep Jeff Dowd
negotiated the
deal.

In addition to live footage, the doc includes animation, videos, and
commentaries from TMBG fans including Frank Black, Syd Straw, Janeane
Garafalo, Jon Stewart, Dave Eggers,
and Andy Richter. "Gigantic"
is the
debut feature film from Schnack, who is a co-founder of music video
production company Bonfire. "Gigantic" premiered at the 2002 SXSW
Film
Festival
before playing at fests including CineVegas, Florida,
Provincetown,
and Seattle.

For a sneak peek at 14 minutes of footage from "Gigantic," tune into ABC's
"Nightline UpClose" tonight. [Wendy Mitchell]
