Meet Princess Shaw, the subject of the newest documentary from Magnolia Pictures, appropriately titled "Presenting Princess Shaw." You may not be familiar with her yet, but it’s time to get acquainted with the superhero by day, super diva by night. Previously known as "Thru You Princess," the Ido Haar-directed documentary was widely beloved when it premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last fall.
During the day, Samantha Montgomery spends her time looking after the elderly in one of the harshest neighborhoods in New Orleans. However, after the sun sets is when Samantha transforms into a different kind of inspiration. When night falls, she bares her soul on her confessional YouTube channel as Princess Shaw, sharing videos of her singing her own songs.
However, all the way on the other side of the world is Ophir Kutiel, otherwise known as Kutiman. He is a composer and musician, but he is better known for his work as a video artist and much celebrated in the world of fine art. While he weaves together video mash-ups of amateur artists on YouTube, he stumbles upon a diamond in the rough: Princess Shaw herself. The pair of artists, though 7,000 miles apart, begin a collaborative relationship, producing nothing less than magic.
As the film continues, we get to witness Princess Shaw in her most vulnerable and emotional performances, pulling the audience into her moving expressions of compassion and generosity. In “Presenting Princess Shaw,” we come across a true heroine who will stop at nothing to fight for her dreams.
The film, presented by Magnolia Pictures, will be available in theaters, on Demand, on Amazon Video and on iTunes on May 27. Check out the exclusive poster below.
