Bernd Eichinger, the Constantin Film head whose producing credits include "Downfall" and "The Baader Meinhof Complex," died yesterday in Los Angeles, Variety reports. He was 61.

Eichinger was also a screenwriter who had credits on "Perfume: The Story of a Murderer," "The Baader Meinhof Complex" and "Downfall," among other titles. He was a producer on the "Resident Evil" franchise as well as "Fantastic Four."

He is survived by his wife Katja Hofmann, a film journalist and former Variety reporter, as well as his daughter Nina, a German TV presenter and actress.
