Project of the Day: A Medic & Psych Ward Escapee Meet in Earthquake Rubble

"Smoke & Mirrors."
Here's your daily dose of an indie film in progress; at the end of the week, you'll have the chance to vote for your favorite.

In the meantime: Is this a movie you’d want to see? Tell us in the comments.

"Smoke & Mirrors"

Tweetable Logline:

Following an earthquake, a subterranean unlicensed medic meets a psych-ward escapee who claims to be a fallen angel.

Elevator Pitch:

This short film is based on one chapter from the forthcoming novel by Craig Clevenger. Hailed as 'One of the most Interesting Writers to emerge in years' by Irvine Welsh, Craig is the author of "The Contortionist's Handbook" which Chuck Palahniuk called '...the best book I have read in easily five years.' and "Dermaphoria."

Smoke & Mirrors is your basic unlicensed medic meets escaped psych patient who claims to be an angel in an abandoned subterranean surgical theater following a massive earthquake kind of story. Your basic psychological noir with a bit of magical realism thrown in for good measure.

Production Team:

Director: Scott Krinsky
Writer: Craig Clevenger
Producer & Cinematographer: Chris McGilvray
Editor: Aaron Fischer
Executive Producer: Craig Clevenger

About the Film:

"I've always been a fan of Film Noir, especially when it incorporates a psychological element. And I am extremely fascinated with the nature memory, and how we perceive reality. Some of the most compelling drama occurs when our memory or perception of reality differs from someone else's.

"Craig's work embodies these elements in a compelling way. He creates these visceral worlds inhabited by unique characters that struggle with these themes, and I think that translates really well to a visual medium like film. So, I approached Craig about working together on a film and Smoke & Mirrors is the result." -- Scott Krinsky

Current Status:

Pre-production.

Clevenger is a brilliant writer and I think this will be a great book. I cannot wait to read it, and also see this short film.
