Project of the Day: 'Florence' Is about a Self-Deluded Young Woman

Here's your daily dose of an indie film in progress; at the end of the week, you'll have the chance to vote for your favorite.

In the meantime: Is this a movie you’d want to see? Tell us in the comments.

"Florence"

Tweetable Logline:

A self-deluded young woman reappears in her hometown, throwing life out of balance for her younger sister.

Elevator Pitch:

Kati’s older sister has just returned to their sleepy upstate hamlet from... somewhere. The facts seem a little muddled. What’s indisputable is that Florence is a mess: a blundering hurricane of good intentions, self-delusions, intellectual posturing and neurosis. Over the course of an evening, Florence accompanies Kati to a high school party where her cool and composed charade of self-confidence begins to fall apart fast. While Florence absentmindedly spirals into self-destruction, Kati starts to unravel the truth about what exactly she’s running from, and how she ended up stuck back in the place she was so eager to leave: home.

Production Team:

Writer/Director - Mark Lukenbill
Cinematographer - Oren Soffer
Producers - Adrian Anaya, Taylor Wildenhaus
Production Designer - Tyanna Lazauskas
Editor - Matt Shapiro

About the Production:

"'Florence' may be a darkly funny story about some pretty ugly feelings, but I'm confident that together with our two incredibly talented leads, Rebecca Lawrence Levy ('The Kids Are Alright,' 'Nancy, Please') and Joslyn Jensen ('Without,' Alison Bagnall's 'Funny Bunny') we can make something that resonates on a really tender, sympathetic, and relatable level. Ultimately, this is a story about the complications of sibling relationships and how hometowns are kinda like the dinner party in 'The Exterminating Angel': once you set foot in the city limits, you sort of lose the will to leave." -- Mark Lukenbill

Current Status:

Pre-production.
