Your food could've been picked by a slave in 2012 - in the United States. Do you really know where your food comes from?
There is more interest in food than at any point in our history yet there is no interest in the people that pick our food. We've always relied on poor Europeans, slaves, Asians and now Latinos, who still face abuses like rape, wage theft and forced labor. Why?
Grocery stores spend millions branding themselves as friendly institutions when in fact they know the abuses in their supply chain but choose to squeeze profits from uninformed consumers rather than change the system. The cost to change this? In many cases, just 1 or 2 cents per pound of produce.

About the Production:
"Last summer I was driving through Florida's farmland. At about 5 am, I stopped for coffee at a bodega filled with farmworkers. This bodega happened to be a couple blocks away from a diner that was filled with Caucasian non-farmworkers. I was dumbfounded by the contrast. If the farmworkers had been African American rather than Latino, this could have been 1911 not 2011. I realized that while I was asking WHERE my food come from, and HOW it's grown, I never asked WHO. Who picks my food? And WHY does no one seem to care including, at that time, me?" -- Sanjay Rawal
