Project of the Day: From Romero to Pegg, the History of the Cinematic Zombie

Here's your daily dose of an indie film in progress; at the end of the week, you'll have the chance to vote for your favorite.

In the meantime: Is this a movie you’d want to see? Tell us in the comments.

"Doc of the Dead"

Tweetable Logline:

The definitive zombie culture documentary, from the makers of THE PEOPLE vs. GEORGE LUCAS. Featuring Simon Pegg and George A. Romero.

Elevator Pitch:

Without a doubt, Zombie Culture has now reached a tipping point. It has literally clawed itself into our braaaaains (!), successfully infiltrated mainstream consciousness, and asserted itself as one of the most entertaining, participatory pop cultural trends of the new century. As a direct result of this unprecedented social explosion, the Zombie Apocalypse seems to be on everybody's lips these days. Should we categorize it as fiction, dismiss it as far-fetched paranoia, or speculate about it as a plausible scenario..? We believe there's never been a better time to release an epic, comprehensive, and contemporary cinematic celebration of Zombie Culture.

Production Team:

Production Company: Exhibit A Pictures
Director: Alexandre O Philippe
DoP/Producer: Robert Muratore
Producer: Kerry Roy

About the Production:

"Brought to the screen by the creators of the groundbreaking participatory doc THE PEOPLE vs. GEORGE LUCAS, and co-hosted by Geekscape’s Jonathan London and RedLetterMedia’s Mr. Plinkett, DOC OF THE DEAD (DoD) will delve deep into the myriad crevasses of zombie culture to deliver the first-ever in-depth look at a contemporary social pandemic of global proportions. Shot and edited in a cinematically edgy, high-octane style, DoD will host a rich and entertaining dialogue with zombie experts and celebrities, seek participation from indie filmmakers, and examine viral cultural trends to explore the possibility and ramifications of an actual zombie outbreak." -- Alexandre O Philippe

Pretty hypocritical you say in your teaser that you want to explore self distribution but your in a voting competition to meet tribeca distributors about a potential deal....

Title might be a problem though since there's already the amazing Roy Frumkes movie "Document of the dead" . Which, by the way, has just been re-released in an extended version by Synapse. Granted the Frumkes movie focus on Romero... a zombie doc might be interesting if it doesn't fall in the traditional traps of that kind of pop/geek theme (and the sentence "zombie experts and celebrities" has me worrying it does).
