About the Production: This is a deeply personal film. I grew up taking care of my mother who has been in a wheelchair since I was two years old. For my debut feature, I returned to my childhood home and cast my mother to be in the film alongside a young actress playing a character who is raw, vulnerable, and caught up in a complex relationship that she does not yet understand. It is important to tell stories with strong female protagonists and this film hopes to validate alternative experiences and show young women that they are not alone.
Current Status: Post-production. "I Believe in Unicorns" is premiering in narrative competition at SXSW 2014.
