Project of the Day: Folk Musician Battling Cancer Looks for Green Resting Place in Documentary 'A Will for the Woods'

Here's your daily dose of an indie film in progress; at the end of the week, you'll have the chance to vote for your favorite.

In the meantime: Is this a movie you’d want to see? Tell us in the comments.

"A Will for the Woods"

Tweetable Logline:

A man's quest for a final resting place that will benefit the earth leads him to the burgeoning green burial movement.

Elevator Pitch:

As the world has become increasingly concerned with global warming and the environment, the role that our funeral and burial practices play in these matters has gone largely unaddressed. What if our final act could be a gift to the planet, a force for regeneration?

Folk dancer, musician, and psychiatrist Clark advocates for natural burial – and plans his own – while battling lymphoma. Capturing the genesis of a revolutionary social and environmental movement, this film is a life-affirming portrait of people coming to terms with death by embracing its essential role in nature.

Production Team:

Producer/Co-Director: Amy Browne
Cinematographer/Co-Director: Jeremy Kaplan
Editor/Co-Director: Tony Hale
Editor/Co-Director: Brian Wilson
Composer: T. Griffin

Sound Design: Tom Paul

About the Production:

What drew us to the topic was not a fascination with death but a realization of the life affirming power of this new-old idea that our bodies should return to the earth naturally. Joe Sehee, head of the Green Burial Council, introduced us to Clark Wang, who was planning his own green funeral while battling lymphoma. After only a few days of filming, we were moved when Clark and his partner Jane confided that he wanted us to follow him through his journey. He wanted the world to witness the power, significance, and beauty he saw in green burial.
