Here's your daily dose of an indie film in progress; at the end of the week, you'll have the chance to vote for your favorite.
In the meantime: Is this a movie you’d want to see? Tell us in the comments.
Tweetable Logline: The lives of four young adults from Miami interconnect as they decide if the city holds a place in their future.
Elevator Pitch: Scarface. Miami Vice. Bad Boys. Each of these films are set in "the Magic City." None of them reflect the unique perspectives of Miami's everyday inhabitants.MIAmi is a narrative, microbudget feature that follows the interconnecting lives of four young adults living in different neighborhoods of Miami, FL as they try to navigate their uncertain futures. Each are learning what home means to them in a city where drugs, crime, and sunny beaches are just one side of it's complex nature.
Writer/Director/Producer: Yesenia Lima
I am greatly interested in the way that Miami natives tie their identities to that of their hometown. Do we create an identity for the city, and thus ourselves, based on what we see in mainstream media, or does mainstream media simply reflect what we make Miami out to be?
I hope the film will invite others to explore the same questions and provide a more realistic depiction of Latin American culture than what is regularly seen. We hope to contribute to a dialogue about the image of Miami and it's inhabitants, lending to a renewed global and local identity.
Current Status: We are currently in pre-production - casting, securing funding, location scouting, etc. Principal photography will begin in mid-June, shooting for two weeks.
