Project of the Day: One Man, Two Titanium Legs, 100 Chickens

Here's your daily dose of an indie film in progress; at the end of the week, you'll have the chance to vote for your favorite.

In the meantime: Is this a movie you’d want to see? Tell us in the comments.

"The Farmer Veteran Project"

Tweetable Logline:

One Man, Two Titanium Legs, 100 Chickens

Elevator Pitch:

The Farmer Veteran Project (working title) is an in-progress documentary film about what happens after war, when a combat veteran comes home to his rural community after years fighting in America’s longest wars.

Alex Sutton is a veteran with six tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. In 2008 an IED explosion ended his military service and destroyed his legs. Back home in North Carolina, medically discharged and standing on new titanium legs, Alex still possesses a strong desire to serve his country. He believes that he can do this best through farming.

Production Team:

Co-Directors: Alix Blair, DL Anderson, Brooke Darrah Shuman
Cinematographer: Jeremy M. Lange
Outreach Coordinator: Victoria Bouloubasis

About the Production:

"Alex is one of the 1.6 million veterans from the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan trying to make a return to civilian life, many in rural communities with high unemployment. Meanwhile, the Department of Agriculture reports that half of all farmers in the United States will retire in the next decade. Alex’s experience in combat has left him with physical and mental damage. His daily life involves pain and a heavy regimen of medication to abate severe PTSD. But farming is something that brings him calm and purpose. We hope this film will resonate with veterans living in rural America. " -- Brooke Darrah Shuman
