In the summer of 1987, filmmaker Malcolm Leo sat down with Grateful Dead founding member and cultural hero Jerry Garcia. The occasion was to record a few comments for Rolling Stone Magazine’s twentieth anniversary special, which Leo was producing and directing for ABC Television. It turned into so much more.
Captured on film by Russell Carpenter, Cinematographer of Titanic, the interview presents Garcia discussing his life, music, family and friends. He is brilliant, charming, joyful and free. It’s Jerry Garcia as you have never seen him before. This unseen interview is the starting point for our comprehensive Jerry Garcia documentary.
