Project of the Day: Three Young Farmers Stand Up to the USDA

Here's your daily dose of an indie film in progress; at the end of the week, you'll have the chance to vote for your favorite.
In the meantime: Is this a movie you'd want to see? Tell us in the comments.

"Boone"

Tweetable Logline:

Three young farmers risk land and friendship to stand up to the USDA. An experiential film about living a life of self reliance.

Elevator Pitch:

How does a lifestyle dictated by the seasons change who we become? Boone is the story of 3 farmers and best friends who risk everything to stand up to dthe USDA. Shot over two years, this film is a sensual exploration that lays bare the complex, gritty and contradictory experience of farming. The landscape becomes its own character, often dictating the limits of the farmers both physically and emotionally. There are no interviews with agricultural experts or theorists. This film acts as a direct entry point into a world that is often glamorized and misunderstood.

Production Team:

Director and Cinematographer - Christopher LaMarca

Editor and Producer- Katrina Taylor

BOONE was chosen as 1 of 8 films for the 2012 FILM INDEPENDENT Documentary Film Lab.

About the Production:

"Working as a professional photojournalist shooting environmental catastrophes I noticed myself increasingly becoming shut down. I knew I had to put down my camera and reconnect to what felt genuine. During that time I visited a friend's farm in Southern Oregon, instantly drawn to the daily visceral experience of this life. I knew I wanted to make a film that had nothing to do with interviews and experts, but focused on the gritty, sensual, emotional experience of living a life of self reliance. And ask the question, how does this experience inspire the choices we make in our lives?" -- Christopher LaMarca

Current Status:

Post-production.
