Project of the Day: Youngest Female Boxer in Documentary 'T-REX'

T-REX
Here's your daily dose of an indie film in progress; at the end of the week, you'll have the chance to vote for your favorite.

In the meantime: Is this a movie you’d want to see? Tell us in the comments.

"T-REX"

Tweetable Logline:

A documentary film about 17 year-old Claressa "T-Rex" Shields, the youngest female boxer to ever compete in the Olympics.

Elevator Pitch:

T-Rex isn't her real name. Her real name is Claressa. She's from Flint. On her 17th birthday, she had a water balloon fight and a yellow cake. She carries her money around in a plastic bottle. She likes boys. Pretty everyday for a teenager. Not exactly. Six years ago her dad took her to a boxing gym. She said she wanted to box. He said, "Hell no. Boxing is a man's sport." She ignored him. Next month, women will box in the Olympics for the first time. Claressa will be the youngest boxer. And that's just where her story begins.

Production Team:

By: Drea Cooper and Zackary Canepari
Creators (producers/directors) of the online series: "California is a place"
Directors: "Aquadettes" (Sundance 2012)

About This Production:

The story of Claressa Shields is not simply a sports story. She was born and raised in Flint, Michigan. A small city with one of the highest unemployment, crime, and murder rates in the country. She's only 17 years old but has somehow figured out how to navigate challenging surroundings and a difficult home life to be competing for a Gold medal at this year's Olympics. It's a remarkable story about how passion and belief can make anything possible.

Current Status: In production, raising funds
